ABOUT

Teru Clavel studied Asian Studies as an undergraduate at Dartmouth College and then pursued a master of science in comparative international education. Initially, Teru utilized this background as an education journalist in Asia. Upon her return to the US, her best-selling and critically acclaimed book World Class was published by Simon & Schuster imprint Atria (2019). In it, she details education policies and cultural practices that lead to academically and emotionally thriving children. Hailed by Arne Duncan as “The voice of 21st century education,” Teru’s passion to make sure every child and adult alike pursues a quality and lifelong education is unparalleled. 

 

Teru has been featured on CNN’s GPS with Fareed Zakaria, The TODAY Show, CNBC, CBS This Morning, Channel News Asia and more.​ ​She has written columns for and has been featured and cited in the Times of London, The Chicago Tribune, The Japan Times, Financial Times, the Washington Post and numerous other publications. 

 

She unabashedly knocks on every door asking questions at every level of international and local government and at global corporations and organizations like the World Economic Forum, Council on Foreign Relations, United Nations and World Bank. She’s visited countless schools​, levels of government, and​ education conferences across the country. Teru speaks fluent English and Japanese and is conversant in basic French and Mandarin.

Teru introduced the Grameen Foundation to multinational institutional investors and corporations in Hong Kong while spearheading 6-figure fundraising efforts for Half the Sky childcare centers and orphanages throughout China. Additionally, she established a sports scholarship in Hong Kong for underprivileged youth to compete globally and taught English to Shanghai’s migrant children through a Chinese NGO and the U.S. Embassy.​
